Blocks and dynamic content

Add text, media, layout, and Basker data to signage slides

The slide builder groups blocks into Simple, Layout, and Data. Use simple blocks for fixed content, layout blocks to arrange other blocks, and data blocks for information managed elsewhere in Basker.

Simple blocks

BlockUse it for
TextShort fixed copy with editable typography.
HeadingProminent fixed copy such as a title or call to action.
ImageAn image from the media library, with cover or contain fitting.
VideoA media-library video with autoplay, loop, and muted controls.
LogoThe normal or inverted logo from Screen Settings.
ClockA 12-hour or 24-hour clock, with optional seconds.
IconA glyph or directional arrow.
IframeAn embeddable URL or copied iframe code, with optional scrolling.
WayfindingA grouped icon, direction arrow, and label that can be styled individually.

Layout blocks

The Group block contains other blocks. Set its direction, distribution, alignment, gap, wrapping, background, and border to build a reusable cluster inside a zone.

Wayfinding is inserted as a ready-made group. You can still select and style its icon, arrow, and label separately.

Data blocks

BlockContent it can show
EventEvent title, prefix, suffix, and date.
Event InstanceA specific occurrence, including its title, date, and time.
VenueVenue name, address, and an optional direction indicator.
SeasonSeason title and date range.
SeriesSeries title and date range.
FieldA selected field from the record linked to the slide, zone, or data group.
Opening HoursAll opening hours or today's hours for a linked venue.

Event, Event Instance, Venue, Season, and Series are added as ready-made groups of individually selectable Field blocks. You can remove fields you do not need, add other Field blocks, and style each part separately. Field and Opening Hours are also available as individual blocks.

Dynamic content can be linked at several levels:

  • Slide link: use one record as the main source for the slide.
  • Zone link: let one zone use a different record or content type.
  • Data-group link: choose the source used by that data group.

A zone can inherit the slide's linked record or use its own. This makes it possible to show, for example, an event in one zone and its venue in another.

Zone links can inherit the slide link, use no record, or use a venue, event, season, or series. Event Instance content is selected through a linked event and can show one occurrence or all occurrences. Opening Hours requires a linked venue and can use a selected opening-hours group.

Templates use samples; slides use real records

When designing a template, choose a sample record to see how real titles, images, and dates fit. The sample is only for the builder preview.

When a finished slide is created from the template, its Linked to fields ask for the actual records. Each choice saves immediately, and those choices are what the public player resolves.

Check every dynamic slot

A template can link the slide, individual zones, and individual data groups separately. Open the finished slide record and make sure each displayed linked-content field has the intended record.

Content updates

The public player resolves current Basker content when it refreshes its screen state. If a linked event title, venue address, opening-hours value, or image changes, the slide can reflect that update without being rebuilt.

The player checks for changes every 15 seconds. Allow a short delay after saving, then confirm the result with the channel preview.

Design for missing content

Preview a dynamic design with unusually long content and with optional fields missing. Builder placeholders help you judge the layout, but they are not shown as fallback text on the live display. Keep critical instructions in fixed text when they must always remain visible.
