Collections and cards
How Collection, Card patterns, Featured, Calendar, Masthead, and event blocks fit together, and which one to reach for.
These blocks pull your own content (events, posts, people, venues, and more) onto a page, so a listing or a header stays current as you add and edit that content. They divide into two jobs: blocks that list many items, and the header that sits on a single item's page.
The piece they share is a Card pattern: a reusable design for one item's title, image, and supporting details. A Collection decides which items appear and how the listing is arranged; its Card Pattern decides what each item shows and how it looks. Create and edit patterns under Design → Cards, then select one in the listing block.
How they relate
- Collection lists content automatically. Pick a content type and it shows everything of that type as cards, staying in sync as content changes. It can also list a hand-picked or rule-based set, and add filters readers use to narrow the list.
- Card patterns are reusable designs for Collection and other content-listing blocks. Each pattern belongs to a content family, such as Events or People, and controls the visible details and layout.
- Featured spotlights a hand-picked set of items as a full-width carousel, one slide per item, with per-slide overrides. Reach for it to highlight a curated few rather than an auto-generated list.
- Calendar shows your events in date-based formats: a running list of dates, a what's-on grid, a day-by-day schedule, or an A-Z index, with a shared filter panel.
- Masthead is the large header in a page or content template. It matches the kind of page it sits on and is built from that page's own details; edit it in Templates, not the ordinary page-body block picker.
- Event Instances and Venue add event detail below a Masthead: the performance dates with booking buttons, and where the event takes place.
