Create the page

Start the Lumen Arts homepage — set its title, web address, and visibility, start from a blueprint or blank, save a draft, and open the live preview.

Start by creating the page that will hold the Lumen Arts Festival homepage. You'll set its title and web address, decide whether it appears in navigation and search, choose a starting point, and save it as a draft so nothing is visible to visitors yet. You'll build the page content on the pages that follow, then publish.

Open the Pages area under Website in Basker. The screen is titled "Pages" with the subtitle Build and manage your website pages.

Click Create New

On the Pages screen, click CREATE NEW at the top to open the page editor.

Add a title and description

On the Content tab, set the Title to Lumen Arts Festival and add a short Description such as A week of light, sound, and performance across the city. The title becomes the page's main heading and its label in your navigation; the description is the short summary used in listings.

Set the main image

In the sidebar's Main Image section, choose CREATE NEW to upload the festival photo, or CHOOSE FROM EXISTING to pick one from your media library. The banner in the next step reuses this image.

Set the web address

The sidebar's Slug section has a Generate from title toggle that's on by default, which turns your title into an address automatically. For the homepage you'll usually want this page at the top of the site — leave the Parent dropdown empty for a top-level page. See Create pages for the full address and hierarchy options.

Web addresses must be unique in one location

A page's web address only needs to be unique among the pages that share its parent. The same address can appear elsewhere in your site.

Choose navigation and search visibility

The sidebar has two toggles, both on by default:

  • Show in Navigation — keep on so the homepage appears in your site's menus.
  • Show in Search — keep on so visitors and search engines can find it.

Turn either off later if you ever need to hide the page. See Visibility.

Start from a blueprint, or stay blank

While the page body is empty, a Start from a blueprint picker sits at the top of the editor. If your site has a homepage blueprint, choose it from the Choose a blueprint menu and select Apply Blueprint to drop a ready-made arrangement of blocks straight in — its blocks become your own editable copy. To build the page by hand instead, as this tutorial does, skip the picker and leave the body empty. See Blueprints.

Save a draft

Click Save Draft at the top right. The page is now saved but hidden from visitors — you'll build its content on the pages that follow, then publish.

Open the live preview

A live preview pane sits beside the editor and re-renders as you work, so you can watch the homepage take shape, as it does on most page types. View Live Page at the top opens the currently published version in a new tab; for now there's nothing published yet, so the preview pane is where you'll check your draft. See The block editor.

With the page created and saved, you're ready to add the opener.
