The block editor
Add, reorder, duplicate, hide, and edit the blocks that make up a page, with live preview as you go.
A page body is a stack of blocks that you edit in place. Each block is one section of the page — a banner, a heading, an image, a list of events. You add blocks, arrange them top to bottom, and edit their content inline, with a preview that updates as you work.
For what blocks are and the full catalogue, see Building pages with blocks. This page is the reference for the controls you use to manage them.
Add a block
There are two ways to add a block:
- The Add Block button (the +) at the bottom of the block list adds a block to the end.
- Add below in any block's actions menu (the ··· button) inserts a new block directly under that one.
Both open the Add Block panel, where blocks are organised into groups. Use the search box to filter by name, then click a block to insert it.
Available blocks come from your theme
The blocks you can add depend on your active theme. Some only appear in certain places — event blocks when you are building an event page, and integration blocks only once the matching app is connected. See Managing themes.
Edit a block inline
Click a block's header to expand it and reveal its fields. Edit the content in place, then click the header again to collapse it. You never leave the page to edit a block.
Some blocks show an editable section title in their header — a label for that block within the page. The number on the left (01, 02, and so on) shows each block's position in the order.
On a long page, use the toolbar above the list:
- Collapse all — closes every block at once.
- Show all — expands every block at once.
Reorder blocks
Drag a block by its handle to a new position, or use Move up and Move down in its actions menu. Move up does not appear on the first block, and move down does not appear on the last.
The actions menu
Each block has an actions menu (the ··· button) with the actions that apply to it:
| Action | What it does |
|---|---|
| Move up / Move down | Moves the block one position in the order. |
| Add below | Inserts a new block directly beneath this one. |
| Duplicate | Makes an independent copy directly below. Editing the copy does not change the original. |
| Copy anchor link | Copies a link that jumps straight to this block on the live page. Appears only when the block has an anchor. |
| Hide block / Show block | Hides the block from the live page without deleting it, or shows it again. |
| Remove | Deletes the block from this page. |
Not every block offers every action — Add below is unavailable on a few blocks, so those can only be added with the bottom + button.
Hide instead of remove
Hide block keeps a block in the editor but leaves it off the live page, so you can bring it back later with Show block. Use it to take a section down temporarily without rebuilding it.
Remove a block
Remove deletes the block from this page only.
Removing a Reusable Section is safe
A Reusable Section block on a page is only a link to the shared section. Removing or duplicating it changes only the link on this page — the shared section itself, and every other page that uses it, is untouched. See Reusable sections.
Preview your work
Most page types support live preview: a preview pane beside the editor that re-renders as you edit, showing your draft content before you publish. You can open the preview in its own window to see more of the page at once.
View Live Page, at the top of the editor, opens the currently published page in a new browser tab. That always shows what visitors see now — the live preview shows your unsaved draft work.
Basker saves your draft as you go; you publish from the top of the editor. For draft, scheduled, and published states and shareable preview links, see Drafts, preview, and publishing.
